One could write a very small bash script and use zenity dialogs to collect settings info from the user too. Would be simple to do and take very few resources. Maybe I'll make one when I feel inspired so we can have our own VL screenshot app.
I have no idea what you're talking about (I'm allergic to writing scripts<g>), but have no shame about using something written by someone else. I'm finding that import is the best screenshot utility I've ever used on Linux or Windows. The simple command line I use fits my needs, but there are so many options for import that I think it could be extremely full featured once you learn how to do it. Unfortunately, the documentation isn't very friendly to "normal users."
Once the holidays are over, I'll experiment with options that look interesting to me. By then I hope VL 5.9 Gold will be out.
