How to change the cursor set in Fluxbox to one of those found in xfce4 under Mouse-Settings-Cursor.

Find those cursore settings.
In VL-5.8 they are in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/
in VL-5.9 they are in /usr/X11R6/share/icons/

As su copy the-ones-you-like to /home/user/.icons
As su chown -R user:user /home/user/.icons/the-one-you-like

Go to /home/user/.icons/default
Edit index.theme
change Inherits= to
Inherits=the-one-you-like

Restart fluxbox and you should have the cursor setting you like.

I just copied crystalblue from VL-5.9 to VL-5.8 as outlined and I have now that pretty default cursor set
of VL-5.9 in Fluxbox VL-5.8
