sound card problem
« on: December 20, 2007, 08:43:34 am »
On my Asus A8V-VM mobo, when I use the on board via sound card I get a high pitched shrill sound along with the music. This problem persisted across all distros and irrespective of adjusting mixer controls in alsamixer. So i decided to use a spare PCI sound card Cirrus Logic's CS4281. I have disabled the on-board sound controller through the bios settings and ran alsaconf which showed cs4281 only. Upon reboot I get no sound.

alsamixer command returns
"function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device "

 How to rectify this ?

In case I want to use both the cards, how to configure alsa ?

Thar is a very tricky thing to do, better try getting one of them to work properly first. It'll probably require lots of tweaking of some alsa configuration files.

Better yet, can you please show the output of
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/asound/modulesand
Code: [Select]
cat /proc/asound/cards
Most music on my soundcloud page was arranged in programs running on VL.
