Hey to all:

Best wishes for the new year to everyone and your families!

So...just installed 5.9 and, horror-of-horrors, there are icons on the fluxbox wm.

How can I get rid of those?

A quick trawl through the files in ~/.fluxbox did not enlighten.

I tried referencing menu.noicons in ~/.fluxbox/init, but no joy (didn't think it would).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards. Newt.

in .fluxbox/  you should have menu and menu.noicons files.
remove the menu file and rename menu.noicons to menu

Thanks uelsk8s, that wasn't it. I probably didn't describe what I wanted accurately.

Commenting out the line

#~/.fluxbox/startwbar &

at the bottom of ~/.fluxbox/startup did the trick.

Cheers All and Happy New Year

I thought it looked stunning, can you put in on other window managers?  How do you play with it to add/delete things?

Grin It is good, isn't it. First thing to do is find the default definition file (/usr/share/wbar/wbar.dot) and copy it to your home directory as .wbar. You can then modify the applications, icons, etc. Syntax is pretty simple - each application takes three lines:

i: which points to the icon to be used, c: which is the command to execute and t: which is the name to display when the mouse cursor is moved over the icon. Wbar can be touchy and if it doesn't like the icon specified, it will simply not appear. If I have problems I start it from a terminal so I can see what error it is coming up with...

Under Vector, there is a script - /usr/bin/vlbar which is used to start Wbar. If you look at it, you'll see some of the startup options. Entering 'wbar --help' from a terminal will get you the rest.

I've got Wbar set to autostart under Xfce. I did find that if I log out and log back in again, Wbar would often start too quickly and end up with the background not displaying cleanly. As a result, I specified a script file to start it in Settings > Autostarted Applications. As below:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
#slow down Wbar startup to give the WM time to stabalize
sleep 2
wbar -above-desk -p bottom -isize 34 -z 1.8 -j 1.0 -bpress -nanim 3

Works well, and I'd hate to be without it...

There's a screen shot of my Wbar setup under one of the 5.9 betas - you can find it here:

It is very nice looking and kudos to those involved. For me though, it's somewhat "non-fluxish". Disrupts the background and way too busy when underneath a transparent term.
