I am having a problem here.....my current VL 5.8 STD is death due to some mistake I done.
Now I want to install VL 5.9 STD but the laptop I am using don't have CD-ROM. I can boot from floppy but the ISO file is in a USB pendrive. Is there a way that I can boot from the floppy to run the vinstall-iso script in the USB pendrive?

you can do it.
I got a bad install last time i tried to install with vinstall-iso from usb pendrive.
I think with the low ram machine i had and all the loop mounts being done there was not enough mem leftover to decompress properly.

I would recommend you copy the contents of the ISO to your swap partition
and add it to lilo then install that way
I think you will get better results and after install just format swap as swap and add it to fstab
