Firefox/Seamonkey confused with space in directory name
« on: January 09, 2008, 01:15:42 pm »

Hy folks,
simple problem challenge:
on my box VL 5.8 I have my data nicely sorted in directories named "My ...", i.e. "My Documents", "My Pictures" etc
When I try to fire the browser from Thunar on a file somewhere in such a directory Firefox/Seamonkey tells me, that it cant find the file.
Example: "Firefox can't find the file at /home/falcon/My."  ???
Dillo is smarter in this respect  :D
Anybody can tell me how to cure this? (the Firefox dumpness, not the the Dillo behaviour)

I assume when you say "try to fire the browser from Thunar on a file" you means something along the lines of right-clicking the file and choosing 'Open with...' or some similar action.  If this is the case, then the problem sounds like the file name being passed to firefox/seamonkey is not properly escaped by either the backslash or quotes.

Example)
firefox /home/falcon/My Documents/file.jpg
should be passed something like
firefox /home/falcon/My\ Documents/file.jpg
or possibly
firefox "/home/falcon/My Documents/file.jpg" [the quotes may only be applicable in ms windows]

Fixing it is another matter of which I'm not familiar; xfce mime-types maybe???

firefox "/home/falcon/My Documents/file.jpg" [the quotes may only be applicable in ms windows]

Set Thunar to open 'firefox "$@"' (minus the single quotes of course).
