At least it did according to DW (http://ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/4.0.0/src/kdebase-4.0.0.tar.bz2), though the official announcement isn't out yet. But then that's typical of DW, they announce a package as soon as it hits a server.

Not that I'm waiting for it or anything, since I still believe it's more eye-candy than substance, but I know a lot of people are.

There are some honest upgrades in functionality (I believe there is integration with Strigi for instance). I asked about KDE 4 on #linuxportalen.se recently and they said it was still kind of buggy. YMMV

KDE 4 still has some bugs and some rough edges, but I'm looking forward to it. There is a lot of good stuff in it (I think). KDE releases their final source a couple days ahead of the official release to allow distros to package it. The official release date is tomorrow. At that time, they will also upload the packages made by the distros that maintain packages on their site. Theoretically, we should have been building packages since yesterday or the day before and also release them tomorrow. That would be cool.  Cheesy

I can actually see Deutsche Welle running something that mentions KDE. In fact, they did on several occasions.

I personally like qt4's ability for grouped tool windowses in Krita. Can't wait for krita to go gold. Last time i checked it was buggy as hell and slow too.

I have some preliminary kde4 packages done http://75.162.235.207/kde4/
i marked them with 1uel because they are far from official and may not be very good either.
but if you want to give it a spin you are welcome to it.
there is an instructions file and a kde4.desktop in the same folder

Have fun,

I have some big trouble with kde4, and it's not the packages that's the problem:

1) Everything is animated and you can't turn all of them off.
2) A lot of setup options previously in the control center have disappeared, kde4 and it's components seem less configurable.
3) uses lots of memory. (over 100 MB more than kde3 does here)

A quick WARNING: I have made these packages with the intent that they would run alongside kde3, and they will, but running kde4 will overwrite your .kde folder messing up your kde3 settings, so if you are going to test with kde3 make sure you backup your .kde folder in your home dir.

Another quick warning: make sure you don't remove the old kdelibs / kdebase when installing the new kde4 ones! you'll probably loose some important stuff like kdm setup files and such. so don't "upgrade" kdelibs and kdebase, just install the new ones and leave the old ones there as well.

kde4 still has bugs. My panel dissapears next time i log in.When i switch the desktop wallpaper,it doesnt change it.
It doest work as fast as kde 3.5- in fact it works a bit faster if i enable the special gui effects (openGL) rendering, but next time i log in i get a black screen. Sad

Ok, i tried to get it running, failed
Installing your base packages didnt get it running either uel  Embarrassed
I got enlightenment on the sys now. I found out nearly every kde app crashes with
xcb_xlib.c:41: xcb_xlib_lock: Assertion `!c->xlib.lock' failed.

it might be kded to boot, the greeter from kdm, kwrite from enlightenment shell, they all give that error

and appearantly m0e has it as well  Grin
