As good as Thunar is, the one thing I miss is a dual-pane (aka split window) view.  I use Dolphin for KDE on my Kubuntu system.  Is anyone familiar with that program and aware of a similar VL choice?

Konqueror (the precursor to Dolphin) can do dual pane, if you have VL SOHO loaded (with KDE). If not you could try "mc", an older ncurses based file manager that is incredibly fast and powerful (once learned) but those brought up on a strictly GUI diet from Microsoft probably would not like it. There is also xfe (available in our repositories) which mimics the Microsoft file explorer.

I like emelFM2. (http://emelfm2.net/) I am not that experienced with Linux but I have had no trouble installing emelFM2 on either VL5.9 or VL5.8. Haven't figured out yet how to associate an icon with the program in the Xfce menu however.

In /usr/share/applications/emelfm2.desktop put:
Icon=/usr/local/share/pixmaps/emelfm2/emelfm2_16.xpm

After MC I too like emelfm2. I had once a similar file manager made by a Russian and was called Northern Captain. I think I lost it when moving to VL-5.8. With it one could even make a .tgz file.

I just installed xfe and took it for a test drive.  My first impression leaves me with only one question.

WHY ISN'T THIS THE DEFAULT FILE MANAGER FOR VectorLinux?

BTW: My Kubuntu experience tells me that the KDE camps are split over Konqueror VS Dolphin.  Is Thunar the 'Next Big Thing' in XFCE?

Since Xfce4 started. I wrote an article about Thunar for which I am yet to be compensated (not because I got ripped off, more because I am terrible with forms and money and such).

How does one package and submit a program?  I just installed my "Must Have" image viewer, XNView.  I used rpm2tgz and installpkg complained about the lack of a description, but all went flawlessly.

I also love xnview (under windows), but find it greatly lacking in linux (at least the native 1.7x version).  I've read reports about the 1.92 w32 version working well under wine though.  I think there are a couple problem with trying to submit XnView as a package to the repository; 1) the license may not allow redistribution and 2) it's non-free for commercial use.  I may be totally off base here but this might be one of those nifty apps that is better just passed along by word-of-mouth than by repository.  However, I'll leave it to someone more "in the know" to make the final call.

I liked Linux Commander, if it's still available, but emelfm's good as well. I'm also used to twin-pane file managers, having used DOS Navigator in DOS.
