[Solved] Rippers revisited: K3b and RipperX
« on: January 28, 2008, 03:28:37 am »

I have been using RipperX for a while now. What I do miss is the being able to have the genre and year of the album to be read from the cddb as well when using ripperx. I could not find any information on getting ripperx to do that. Any one knows if it is even possible with ripperx?

Switched to K3b for ripping. K3b does extract the genre/year info from the cddb. Had some issues using k3b as user. Being lazy, I switched to root using K3b. Still same issues, e.g. /dev/hdc no read permissions. Solvable I guess but worse than that is that K3b is a true resource hog!

Still being lazy, I switched to Dynebolic for ripping. K3b under dynebolic is responsive on the same machine and I can even use xmms/audacious for playback while ripping.

Both Vector and Dynebolic use the same ck real-time patches. So I wonder why K3b is so sluggish under Vector and still agile under dyne. Is there a way to investigate this? Does any one know a good place to start? (See, I am not always lazy  ;))
