How to play .ogg music files with XMMS?
« on: April 21, 2008, 08:52:50 pm »
The system:
Desktop ASUS VX97 (Pentium MM, 128MB)
with VL 5.9 Standard Gold installed.

The Issue:
I want to play *.ogg music files from a CD.

What happened so far:
I configured the Alsa via  VASMCC and I already can see that XMMS is finding Track xx in my 'Music' folder or on a CD-ROM. I posted some screenshots HERE which proof that.
But I don't have sound.

Can somebody help me, please, to configure XMMS?

Have you ever had sound in any application on that system? If the answer is no then it is probably just a mixer problem. Play a trak, open up a terminal, type "alsamixer" and use "m" to unmute channels and the up arrow key to increase gain on various channels until you get sound.

I can't tell...I got the computer in a Thrift Store...the OS, supposedly Windows 95/98, was gone...
I only can guess it had sound once!
Thanks for the hint...I keep you posted... :)
