Besides, VL-Light lets you basically build it from the ground up, no?  You get the core basics, everything else you put in yourself, right?  I'm fine with that.

No.  VL-Light is optimized for speed and uses lightweight apps, but a full install is around 1.9 GB.  That isn't small.  You may want to take a look at VL-Mini (currently at alpha 1.1), the pocket version of VL, which is about 1.1GB and is much closer to what you describe.

Haha, my bad then.  Yes, I think I will take a look at this VL Mini then.
