I've used Linux years ago, and back home now.
Thought of trying some light weight linux and to install the packages I wanted, so that, no unnecessary stuff gets into the system. VectorLinux was my first try and it gave me shockers (+ve though)!
My sound card was recognized during the installation, devices are mounted themselves, and most of all my ADSL modem did not need any installation (surprise! surprise!! surprise!!!), even Windows needed a painful installatioin. These things have left an immense good impression on VL.
First impression is the best impression, and am now moving off to VL from windows. It has been three days that I have touched my windows Laptop. I brought a new LCD 19'' monitor for Linux and am working on this now 24x7 setting up my applications. The un expected broad band connection has added fuel to the fury.
Linux now seems to be no different than windows for me.
