Assuming that the installation of Brother's lpr and cups wrappers was successful, make sure that the CUPS service is enabled in VL. The easiest way to do this is to use the VASM tool, which should be available from the start menu. Once VASM is open, click on SUPER -> type root password in dialog box -> SERVICES -> SRVSET. Go through each of the run levels you plan to use and ensure that CUPS is selected for each run level. After cups has been enabled, click EXIT -> OK to go to the previous menu.
Once you have ensured that CUPS is enabled, you can also use VASM as root to configure CUPS. From the SERVICES menu select CUPSWEB. Click OK on the dialog box that will appear after you read the text in it.
If your printer is a USB printer, ensure that it is connected to the computer and powered on before going any further.
Once the browser appears with the CUPS "home page," click on the "Add Printer" button. Enter the information requested on the first screen, then click OK. At the second screen, you will need to select how your printer is connected to your computer. After you've selected the type of connection, you may need to add a URL. After doing that, you'll be prompted for the make and model of your printer. If the driver you downloaded from Brother's web site was indeed installed, it should be listed among the available drivers. Enter the root user name and password when prompted.
Once the printer has been installed, go to Manage Printers -> Print Test Page in the CUPS web browser interface to ensure that there is communication.
Hope this helps. Post again if you run into other problems.
