Hi,

I've tried a couple of discs of 5.9 Gold STD (downloaded from the website) and it doesn't boot. It gets as far as the isolinux title, and ends up with the following:-

isolinux: Disk error 3B, AX=42DC, Drive 9F

I've tried running the live CD and all is fine.

The laptop is a k6-2+ 500. 250M ram, 20G hard drive.

any help appreciated.

Ian.

This has been reported before. It appears to be a bad burn.

You mention that you tried many disks were these burned at
the same speed. If not try 4X not all cdroms are created equal.

Perhaps the Laptop name and model number so that we can google
it.

Definately seems to be a burning iso issue. Tried re-downloading the gold std, burning it, then verifying it, came up with an error, regardless of burn speed. Going down to 5.8 and tried that, burnt with no errors, and installed OK (but having issues setting up network)

5.9 is a big step forward from 5.8.  Try downloading it from a different mirror.

Ok, tried the main download site for 5.9 std gold, and the following....
http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/vectorlinux.com/
http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/vectorlinux/
http://ftp://ftp.chg.ru/pub/Linux/sunsite/distributions/vectorlinux/

all of them have given me the isolinux error.

The Live version burned and ran OK.
The Lite version (B3) burned and ran OK too.

The laptop is a Time branded unit, model 2000. I believe the original manufacturer is FIC.
