Help configuring network startup
« on: March 19, 2008, 11:43:38 am »

Hi guys,

ok so i configured my wireless through VLwifi and it works fine, but the problem i am having is when i boot my computer the daemon for it starts up after my login appears.  i use a text only startup, and after i get a chance to login, my login freezes and vector configures my wireless card. strange.
so my question is how can i get my wifi to start up BEFORE i get to my login. is there something in the /etc/inittab i can change the order of or something like that?

thanks  :)

Which version of VL are you using?

clone,
I think the problem is that the network is started in the background
open /etc/rc.d/rc.M as root and find the line that says
Code: [Select]
/etc/rc.d/rc.network & >dev/nulland remove the &
so it looks like this
Code: [Select]
/etc/rc.d/rc.network >dev/null
Let us know if that fixes it for you.

ok thanks for reply.

but the network part of that file only applies to my ethernet port connection and thats fine. its the way that VLwifi starts up is the problem. I want to get it to start before i logon but it sort of seems like it starts when it wants to after all the other modules and daemons are loaded.
i will probably just end up configuring my wireless the slackware way and add my card to /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf, i figure that should fix it.

thanks though  :)

clone,
both wired and wireless networks are started from rc.network
VLwifi adds an inet that gets started by rc.network.

The VL inet scripts dont do anything with the data in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf

youre right

i tried to start up my wireless the slack way and it does the same thing.  i guess its not that big of a deal, its just like an 8 second delay on the login screen while it configures my card. its so strange that it does that though?
