I approached this very interesting distro searching a real lightweight Linux able to run with low resource in an usable way.
In fact I found much more and this enthusiasm transpires from this post of my technical blog:
http://gsscoder.blogspot.com/2008/03/try-vector-linux.html. In future I'd like to write more on this distro.

These are things that I really loved in Vector Linux:
 - fast and responsive with very low requirements
 - easy to use installation software (powerful in recognize hardware devices)
 - very good defaults
 - excellent software management system (the one I prefer, apt-get like family)

I know that there is still much to discover (and praise), but are still a few days that I am studying this wonderful distro ...

Huh I've some questions Grin, but I'll search the right forum board to post.

Bye,
 Giacomo

Giacomo,

1) Welcome to Vector Linux!  I'm just a regular user, but I can at least say that this is the best Linux distribution I've tried (out of dozens ...), and I'm very happy to have it to use.

2) The community here is great, the best I've experienced in any help forum of any kind.

3) I hope you continue to have a good experience, and that you ask for anything that you need.  If my own experience is any guide, people here will do anything they can to help you.

I, as tomh38 has stated, have found Vector Linux to be the best I've tried (out of dozens too). And while the OS is great the community is even better.

My friends,
thank you for the warm welcome!

I'm a programmer with strong interest in operating system.

I don't try a distro installing once under a virtualization software, watching a boot and removing the files...

I put the distro under a magnifying glass; making a lot of tests and really using it;
and about VL: I'm liking what I'm seeing!  Shocked

I asked somthing and got immediate response: you're right the community is great!

Again thank you all,
 Giacomo  Wink

PS:
In a near future I hope I can contribute to the VL project in a more consistent way.
For now I will stress VL; use and test it; install and run compilers/interpreters on it
(and report results here).

Thanks Epic Fail Guy---
For you and everyone interested:
I've some other xenomorph images, saved from the web, but elaborated (this is a great word!) to be avatar.
Email me and I'll email you a compressed archive (as you like .zip/.tgz) with these friendly beast! (don't worry the file will be little).

This post may not seem VL-pertinent; but I think it is! (Or at least may be...)
This post (but not this forum board) can be a place for start talkin' about a xenomorph-based VL theme (for Xfce4 and related techs for example).
>>>anyway I've something to say also about window+desktop manager choose - but again, I think, this is not the right forum place<<<

Wink bye

I'm not sure Herr Giger would be terribly happy about his art being used in a commercial product without permission...

I'm not sure to undestand ...
What commercial product? I've just adapted some movie capture to be used as forum avatar; nothing more.
I never told to ask money for this... And about a XENO-THEME: It will be posted in someone personal website for free without damagin' anyone...
Or better... Anyone can make its own without publishing nothing!

Anyway, I hope not to see Giger in court as soon ...

Yes ... perhaps ... but the use of H.R. Giger's artwork in a Linux distro would probably draw much more attention, what with DW and all these other sites the trendy kids enjoy these days
