[SOLVED] md5sum mismatch, always...
« on: March 21, 2008, 05:53:35 am »

Hello,
May be i don't know how a md5sum checker should be used, but as far as i know i have downloaded release 5.9 from here http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.9/iso-release/ 2 times and its always a bad md5sum.
Don't know what to do.
How many times should i try download?
Or perhaps anyone could point me ho to correctly use sum checker, and may be suggest a good sum checker in general?
Thanks.

If your downloads get corrupted, try using this command instead of your browser to download:
Code: [Select]
wget http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.9/iso-release/VL5.9-STD-Gold.iso
For the iso file VL5.9-STD-Gold.iso, in a terminal (command prompt window), type:
md5sum VL5.9-STD-Gold.iso
It will chug along for a while, and produce an output like this:
8198c819044602acaaec54aa33631b39  VL5.9-STD-Gold.iso

Now compare the output to the published md5sum of your file.

;D I'm much lazier than you are. For something like that, I would download the .md5.txt file to the same directory as the iso and use md5sum -c VL5.9-STD-Gold.iso.md5sum

That will check the published md5sum against the downloaded iso without further work on my part. As I said, I'm nothing if not lazy...

Using wget should allow the download to resume - wget -c is the4 switch to use...
