Version Help
« on: April 05, 2008, 08:13:54 am »
Hello!
I am going to get Vector Linux. Could someone recommend a version compatible with my older computer? 64 MB RAM , 30GIG HD 730 AMD processor. Right now, I have Windows on hda & Damn Small Linux-Not on hda2.  Since DSL-N seems to be a work in progress, I am looking for a more stable distro and have heard great things about Vector. Should I get a standard version or lite version. All answers appreciated
Thanks!

Hello thunderheights,

With your specs, I'd recommend vl-light . If you could get a bit more ram, std would work fine, but only 64 MB is too loow for std.

Thanks!
I installed Vector Linux Light, got it up and running, connected to the internet(after DAYS of trying) but all my apps are incredibly slow and internet surfing is even slower with Opera. Any suggestions? Too many things running at startup? I gave 4000MB to root 10 GIG to user 1 gig to swap. DSL and Puppy Linux ran twice as fast as VL Light, I know they are a lot smaller and I expected some loss of computer performance...then again I am still a newbie...perhaps I have things configured incorrectly. :(
All replies appreciated!
