High! Welcome to VectorLand.

To change the resolution, you need to edit xorg.conf as root. I am assuming you are using VectorLinux 5.9 STD

To login into root account, open up Terminal and issue command
Code: [Select]
suinput your root password.
Next up, backup your existing xorg.conf
Code: [Select]
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorgbackup.confOpen xorg.conf with mousepad (or any other text editor you like)
Code: [Select]
mousepad /etc/X11/xorg.confA text editor should pop up. Find the section "Screen"
It should look something like this
Quote
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device     "Card0"
Monitor    "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     1
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     4
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     8
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     15
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     24
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
You'll notice that in the Modes lines there are resolutions. The listed resolutions are the ones the system is going to try.
Add "1024x768" to the every one of the Modes lines. So it should look something like this

Quote
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device     "Card0"
Monitor    "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     1
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     4
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     8
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     15
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport   0 0
Depth     24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
Make sure you add "1024x768" before the other resolution modes (from left to right).
Double check there aren't any typos
Save (Hit Ctrl + s)
Save your work, next one is gonna restart your X server and that means shutting down all apps.
Hit Ctrl + Alt + Backspace.

And then you should have your resolution set to 1024x768.

If by any chance you already have "1024x768" in the Modes lines, you will prolly need to adjust the proper refresh rates for you. In this case post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf here and we will continue.

The line to look for is the one which states:
VertRefresh 72-75

In your case X will try to drive it to 75 Hz if it can. Assuming your display is an LCD, you should be fine using 60 Hz. Try changing those numbers to 50-60.

After each change, remember to save the file, and restart X (or your computer). When troubleshooting X I always boot to TUI and use "mcedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf" for edits, then "startx" to test display.
