Sometime, while opening a new page, Opera all of a sudden crashes. Reopening the site works fine. I like Opera, since it has a few nice features, but apparently it is not fully stable on my PC. Any suggestion? Is it a known problem, or should I post more diagnostic info? Which ones? Thanks in advance to everyone Carlo

Some more info would definitely be helpful.
You are using which version of VL? What version of Opera? What are the specs of your machine? Is it the same web page every time?

I've been using Opera 9.5 Beta 1 on VL5.9 standard ever since 5.9 was first released and have not noticed any Opera crashes. I wonder if maybe 128MB is not enough? Next time it crashes open a terminal, type "free" and then "ps aux" and post the results to this thread.

It crashes here too (not often though) VL5.8 Opera 9.50B2 RAM 256MB (Opera eats around 53% of memory, hungry beast) CPU 1.8MHz
I might be wrong but my feeling is that Opera crashes more often when accessing flash sites.

Opera does not crash for me on youtube, same distro. You are using quite a bit of swap as you only have 128MB of RAM. Perhaps Opera needs RAM, not swap to run youtube videos and thus it crashes. It's the only reason I can think of. Do you not have another stick of 128MB you can add to that box?

Well...I have experienced spontanious opera crashes on both win and linux on various machines since opera6...I agree that 128 meg is low for ram especially for utube...but I did have a crash on the p3-600 with 256 yesterday when attempting to download an openoffice doc from hotmail...it reopened fine and did download the doc but the doc seems to be corrrupted and will not open, so not sure what happened there. I have had no other instance and have been doing a lot of googles for info.. but have not been heavy surfing on flash and java sites...my guess is that this may increase the possibility. cheers

I can open the page fine...but it did take a few...I noticed opera blocked a pop up and then finished loading...is it possible you are hitting a link befor the page fully loads...and did you play with the settings for the browser...I ran opera on another linux some time ago...it was low spec and opera crashed when I attempted to link before pages loaded sometimes...this is likely to continue but if you monitor useage sometimes you find a pattern. then you know what to avoid

I have stopped using Opera altogether as it crashes at will. Kind of like Windows 98 and the blue screen of death. Too bad. I like the interface and the freedom to customize it. It can be very useful in small and large screen environments. But again it seems to crash at will. I have noticed this on Linux boxes and windoze machines recently. No fun!

Guys, why don't you return to Opera 9.2*? Unless you are concerned with flash to work (and it's still far from being perfect on 9.50) 9.2* is more stable. After all 9.5* is in beta testing and no "warranties" that it won't crash. IMHO it's better to discuss the issues with this browser on Opera forums. It's not VL's flaw.

Opera 9.2x crashes regularly on my box. Opera 9.5 crashes relentlessly. No point in going back.
