Where is the vlinstall-iso???
« on: May 20, 2008, 04:25:37 am »

According to the manuals, for Direct ISO on a Linux Host installation, the "vlinstall-iso [available from] “install/vinstall/vinstall-iso” whithin the FTP site" is needed. But I just can't find an "install" directory at all in the ftp site (or any mirror). Am I missing something?

Thanks  ;D

Download the ISO file and burn it to a disc. On the disk, in the install/vinstall directory is the file vinstall-iso. It is a script that can be used for the direct ISO routine.

The procedure for Direct ISO installation is supposed to bypass the need to burn on a CD (as far as I understood at least). Doesn't it nullify that purpose if one has to burn the ISO on a CD in order to access the vlinstall?

EDIT: Or was it so that only Direct ISO on a windows host saves you the CD burning?

you can get the file from the iso by mounting it
"mount -o loop VL5.9-Light.iso /mnt/loop"
there is also a version of it in the repo here:

You don't have to burn the CD.

If you are using Linux, mount the ISO image using the loop option.

If in Windows, there are free programs available. I used Isobuster back in my windows days. This one comes recommended: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/announcements.php

There is even an undocumented utility from MS: http://weblogs.asp.net/pleloup/archive/2004/01/15/58918.aspx

Edit: As uelsk8s said..  ;)
