M10 Radeon (96/97) 3d without fglrx vector<>ubuntu
« on: March 19, 2008, 05:00:26 pm »

hi all,

i am desperately trying to get my laptop M10 (radeon 9600 mobility) to work in 3d mode with the open source "radeon" drivers. i have a friend who has 3d support with that card (9700, but that's basically the same chip with a higher clock) on his laptop running ubuntu.

this is his xorg.conf (shortened):

now tell me why i get 0.5 fps in tuxracer. i found the fglrx driver too unstable to use it, and as i have a friend who has it running with "radeon", i know it must be possible somehow. thanks for any help!
however, glxgears gives me 250fps.

ok, no answer here. one more thing, i tried suse (fglrx is optimised for suse, i read somewhere), and wow, the standard radon module produced frame rates between 1500 and 1700 in glxgears, values that i only achieved with fglrx in vector. i'll post the xorg.conf tomorrow.

ok, this is the autoconfig file from Zenwalk 5 taht i installed recently. glxgears@1720 fps in "radeon" module, warsow runs great, sauerbraten->don't even think of it. so there is still room for improvement.

only the relevant parts:

Those framerates are for fglrx? (1500-1700)
This laptop has the ATI mobility 7500 using the open source Radeon driver and I achieve 1700 or better with glxgears.  I would of thought fglrx would perform much better then that?

1500-1700 are module "radon" only on suse 10.3, ubuntu 7.10 and zenwalk 5 (which i'm currently using). VL's module "radeon" presents me only 250. fglrx gives me 2200-2500 at all those systems.

@exet: so, you're saying that you get 1700 with rad7500 and "radeon" module in VL? maybe i just damaged anything when i removed fglrx from my system. hm.
