Hi vincent2, I think you need to run those commands as root. To become root use the su command and then your root password.

I believe that support for rtl8187 is built-in to the kernel or at least an available module. Having said that it never worked for me. Thus I use ndiswrapper for both my wireless adapters (rtl8185 - pcmcia, and rtl8187 - usb). The usb (8187) adapter shuts off after about 10-15 minutes but the pcmcia adapter (8185) works as it should.

Bonjour!
once run ./makedrv as root ,rtl8187 worked somehow by typing ./wlan0up as root, while can't configure IP with "wlan0dhcp",i've got to type ''ifconfig wlan0 up 192.168.1.199" and also adding "alias wlan0 r8187" to "/etc/modprobe.conf"...also rtl8187 not stable, sysrem got hung from time to time ...
maybe the method of reconfiging kernel to support rtl8187 would run very stable, would anyone elaborate the commands again?
meawhile i 'd like to try ndiswrapper for rtl8187,pls. inform the how-tos as well, as ndiswrapper's not included package on vector mirror ftp.

Hi! I have a wifi device with the same chipset, and I couldn't compile the official drivers Sad, so I compile a new kernel with the rtl8187 module support. This module is very unstable and every 10 minutes i have to disconnect device, connect, and configure it. Another bad thing is that this driver cannot permit monitor mode Sad.
If someone use this chipset with ndiswrapper, please tell me what windows version driver works good. thanks

I've used the WinXP drivers through ndiswrapper. It quits after 10-15 minutes, just as the native module does to you, so I've stopped using it when in VL. I could never get the native module to work for me...
I use under it XP without any issues though. (I'm using rtl8185 in VL and no problems.)

I have news! I get rtl-wifi drivers from http://rtl-wifi.sourceforge.net/wiki/Main_Page and I had a few problems, but finally works very good, without problems. If you try it and have problems, post it here Cheesy.
