Multimedia Bonus Disc 1.0 is Released!!!
« on: April 06, 2008, 05:04:17 pm »

Multimedia Bonus Disc version 1.0 is finally here.

Much hard work has been put into this release and it features nearly all of the best multimedia applications for Linux. I have been agonizing over this final version, trying to make sure everything is perfect. While I'm sure I have not completely succeeded, I have done my best and hope you all enjoy the results.

In addition to the free download, you can also purchase a hard copy of the Multimedia Bonus Disc with a large printed manual complete with screenshots, tutorials, and information to help you sort out the massive amount of software on the disc. To download this release or purchase the hard copy, visit: http://www.vectorlinuxsolutions.com

To answer a question I have had several times about this project, I'll just address it here. The Multimedia Bonus Disc is NOT a full Linux distribution or a spinoff of Vector. Instead, it is a collection of packages that can be installed onto a previously installed version of VL. There is no need to repartition to install it or anything like that. The only requirement is that you have VL 5.9 installed. For more information on installation, view the quickstart guide: http://www.vectorlinuxsolutions.com/install.pdf

For those of you who want to know what changed between the final version and RC 2.8, here are the changes:

Because software is constantly changing, and, especially in the open source world, is evolving with newer versions, I thought it might be nice to create updates for the VL MMBD between releases. Although there is absolutely no need for an update to the MMBD right now, I thought it might be nice to get some input about how I might go about creating updates. I have a couple ideas, but I want to see what others might say. Any ideas?

I haven't thought about an update scheme but I do have a question. Which one of the quartet (Harvesters?) is you? None look like you (Bob M.)  :o

Hehe, actually none of them are me. I was just filming them at a church event. And you are right, I look nothing like Bob Marley.  ;)

I was thinking for the updating system, I might use the repo. If/when the bonus disc gets moved to the repo, I can update the packages, move them to the repo, and when there is a significant number of new ones, release them as an update. I would merely give the list which people can plug into gslapt to download. Maybe that would work. Any other ideas?
