MMBD cd with printed manual.
« on: April 26, 2008, 04:05:35 pm »

Hello everyone
I just got my MultiMedia Bonus Disk and printed manual in the mail, and I just wanted to let everyone know how Nice it is.
It is definitely worth 15 bucks. If you are going to do any multimedia work on VL you have to grab a copy. It has all the tools you need to make DVD backups and Waaay more.

I'm glad you liked it Uelsk8s. If anyone else is interested in the Multimedia Bonus Disc, the website is: http://www.vectorlinuxsolutions.com/

The manual presents a couple methods for recording, along with a list of the programs that can be used. That way, if you do have a problem with Audacity, there are several alternatives for recording, but you could still use Audacity. In the section about Audacity, the manual does present the fixes that I had mentioned before in another thread and should in theory solve any problems you might have with it. You may just have to get one and find out.  ;)

I think it might come with soho but the one included on std deluxe is a snapshot of a testing version that has a lot of old programs, many that don't work etc... AND you don't get the manual with either one. The new version 1.0 has a huge load of updated programs and lots of fixes. I hope you like it either way though!

and will look at the alternatives

I forgot to mention, here are some of the alternatives:

dyne:bolic (http://www.dynebolic.org/)
64 Studio (http://64studio.com/)
Ubuntu Studio (http://ubuntustudio.org/)

The first one is a live cd, the second and third are Ubuntu based. The MMBD has roughly the same selection of applications that the others have. For example, here is the list of apps included on Ubuntu Studio: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/PackageList

I actually used that list as a base for the MMBD, but have expanded on it and have removed some of the worthless ones that  have dead development over several years old. I hope that helps for your comparison of alternatives.

I'll PM you, we might be able to work something out. I can assure you that you will probably want the manual. It has a lot of information that you might find useful.

Here is the Table of Contents for the manual for those of you who are interested in what exactly is in the manual.
