Attention all Vector Linux users!

This marks the official announcement of a wallpaper contest with a FREE Multimedia Bonus Disc with Printed Manual shipped to the winner's home. The rules of the contest are as follows:

  • Submissions must be VL related
  • Wallpapers must be submitted in two formats with these resolutions: Widescreen (2560x1600) Standard (1600x1200)
  • Submissions must be clean and not offensive in any way. No exceptions!
  • All wallpapers must be released under a free license, like CC or LGPL.
  • The deadline for submissions is Monday, June 9 12:00 AM Pacific time

Submissions will be judged based on style, creativity, striking appearance, and quality.

Submissions will be accepted in this thread. Non Vector Linux users are encouraged to participate and may send their works to dweeberkitty at gmail.com. Please do not post in this thread except to submit a wallpaper. No more than two wallpapers will be accepted by any one contestant.

If you do not win, don't despair! This contest marks the beginning of a series of seven contests with the same prize. You may have a chance yet to win something!

Here is a picture of the prize that could be yours!

For those of you who do not wish to participate in the contest or who do not win, the Vector Linux Multimedia Bonus Disc can be purchased at this site: http://www.vectorlinuxsolutions.com

Thanks for the submission. Remember it needs to be in TWO formats. Please also change your post to just include the links to the wallpaper so that when others begin submitting, this thread does not take forever to download. Thanks!

This is just a reminder. The deadline for the contest is in ONE WEEK from today. Work hard on those wallpapers. You don't have much time!

The deadline for the contest is TODAY!!!! Any submissions? This is really disappointing  Undecided. Uelsk8s sponsors this contest, I organize it and get everything ready.....and NO ONE enters? What's the deal guys? I know there's a lot of good talent in the VL community. Bummer, we will have to try this contest again and see what we can do differently to get people to actually submit. If you have any ideas about what went wrong, we have been brainstorming on this thread: http://www.vectorlinux.com/forum2/index.php?topic=6346.0

(Maybe I didn't stress the FREE PRIZES enough   Cheesy)

I got one here...

Looks great, Masta...love the "quiet spotlight" effect; feels like VL stepping out on stage to say "Hello" - not shy, but not overly boastful either - just confident.

First place finish in my books!! Wink

Yes it is a nice wallpaper. However, we would like to see as many submissions as possible. Thus, the deadline for submitting a wallpaper has been extended. http://www.vectorlinux.com/forum2/index.php?topic=6580.0

I don't know, but honestly, I wouldn't count on it...

If you want to contribute a wallpaper and give it to the community, you can, of course Smiley

No the contest idea was scrapped because of lack of participation. So we designated the prizes for various linux magazines and hope they write a review or something.... Smiley

Well this sucks.

A relative newbie can do this stuff even if they are not good with graphics programs or even Linux. I will show you an example. I made this in Gimp using cut and paste, the fuzzy tool and a neat online text editor to make the text called CoolText.. Granted it's not for Vector and it's not the best but I'm saying, If I can do this as a beginner, anyone can do it. Took me just a few hours and this was the first time I had used Gimp. ( Beasty Daemon used with  permission from Marshall Kirk McKusick )

I'll be happy to try to make one for Vector. I'm sorry I missed this contest.

Er.. I just noticed the contest was 4 years ago :-O LOL.

Yep, contest was four years ago, but still the work was nice looking. I do hope you'll do one for VL anyways, and submit it for people to use. There is an art section here in forum where you can post it. Cheers
