I built an XAMMP server a lont time ago... but the package is gone Sad

It's probabbly way out of date by now...

You should submit an official package request in the package requests board

There is a VL 5.8 package for xammp at http://ftp://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/veclinux-5.8/extra/net/ which might work even work on 5.9, but I don't know for sure.

You could also try a php slackware package.

Otherwise configure, make, make install from source at http://www.php.net/downloads.php. The install docs are good so it's not too bad to install from source.

Xampp is very easy to install. Download the latest from apachefriends.org, then as root tar xvf xampp.xxx.xx.xxx.x.tar.bz2 -C /opt
I like to put a link to the executable in my root path:

Code:
ln -s /opt/lampp/lampp /sbin/lampp

Remember to chown -R nobody:nobody in the root xampp directory.
Execute then (as root) ./xampp start and ./xampp mysqlstart   (IIRC)

I've thought about packaging Apache, PHP and friends.  But I didn't know if anyone would really have a interest considering Xammp is out there and is so convenient.

I've even thought about doing a updated Xampp package, but it comes completely self contained with scores of libs and apps that we have installed by default.  And not to mention how easily and cleanly it installs and removes.  I just need to stop thinking so much and just package something. Smiley
