Out of curiosity...

The good news is, vpackager built you a package for xf86-video-via-0.2.2
it just can't find it, but it should be in your /tmp/vpackager-builds/ directory

The bad news is, vpackager doesn't know how to build the rest of them...which indicates out-of-the-ordinary build procedures for these other packages

That also indicates the following facts about the rest of the packages

• They do not ship with configure scripts
• They are not CMake sources
• They are not Python sources

if any of these were true, then vpackager would build them.

The only thing I can suggest at this point would be to manually extract each source tarball.
Look in the contents and see if you can find a file called "Makefile"
If it exists, try running "make" inside that directory
otherwise, I'm out of bullets

Yes, I found it (xf86-video-via-0.2.2) in /tmp/vpackager-builds.
There I also found
/via-20060403-linux.i386 and
/unichrome-X-r30

In /via-20060403-linux.i386/drm/linux I found "Makefile" and "Makefile.kernel"
In /xf86-video-via-0.2.2 I found "Makefile.am" and "Makfile.in"
In /unichrome-X-r30 I found "Imakefile"
In /OpenSource_ubranch I found only two files...."libGL.so.1.2" and "/modules/dri/unichrome_dri.so".

I thought it through and I still don't want to give up on this issue...

But, because this is all kind of "Mandarin" to me I can't go ahead on my own...
Which of these ..makefiles.. do I have to consider???
What do I have to do with the "*.so"-files???
Maybe somebody has to nerve to help once more...

run make inside those directores and cross your fingers

if you dont see any errors, should be safe to run make install

otherwise I dunno

It's kind of hard to help on something like this. Especially because I dont own that kind of hardware, thus I would not get even close in the process to where you are..

After a little travel break, I returned to my Compiz project.
I started again with the command

Code:

root:# glxinfo | grep render

and got this prompt

direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect

Yes, I want to find out why but I don't know how to do "try setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose'
Any ideas?

I attached the files you asked for. Also for more information, the file via.4 which is from /usr/local/man/man4/via.4 after I installed the driver.

'lspci' tells me the video card is:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8378 [S3 UniChrome] Integrated Video (rev 01)

The driver I installed for this card with vpackager:

xf86-video-via-0.2.2

I don't know how to change xorg.conf so that this driver is used?
