The SOHO 5.9 CDs came in the mail today. Thank you very much. I'm impressed, the desktop is excellent. It took just 30 trouble-free minutes to install disk 1 on my 1.8 MHz Celeron, Acer laptop. Even sound works straight off!
Since installing the Multimedia CD I can't keep the kids off it, so I am back to the the 5.9 standard machine (surprisingly I'm going to miss Xfce but I'm not up to another install tonight).
I had a few problems with disk 2 (maybe due to my low tech skills)
1. Firstly I tried following the instructions printed on the CD about Autobooting. No joy there. I think you should change these instructions.
2. Install.sh didn't work. I had to :
su
cd/mnt/cdrom/MMBD_Data
vsuper sh install.sh
3. I have room, so installed everything but got a few error messages Everything seems to work but I thought I'd let you know anyway. This is from my scribbles, so syntax may be not quite right - the machine is somewhere in Wesnoth at present.
regex failed on [PACKAGE NAME: X11docs.tlz
and
: command not found
'h: line 3: syntax error near unexpected token '{
'h: line 3: config () {
and multiple times
sbin/ldconfig: /usr/lib/libboost_thread-mt.so is not symbolic link
and
cp: cannot stat "/root/slapt-getrc.backup' No such file or directory
and the results of this problem.
It doesn't seem to be causing any issues, the 13 year-old son and his friends (school holidays) are quite happily playing with the games and drum machine. So you get a vote of approval there.
Thank you to all involved for the great distro, first impressions are very good.
