slow video on youtube and others

hello,

i encounter an annoying problem

i'm used to use video sharing sites like youtube and other sites
and video run smoothly on windows xp

but when using Vector linux (i use 5.9 standard) it goes very slow
but when i download this video (.FLV) and play it on Mplayer it run
very good.

so i ask about a solution to this problem

my hardware is:

1. CPU PIII 1GHZ
2. RAM 384 MB
3. Embedded VGA sis 630

This has been covered recently.  With lower spec machines....  Flash 9 runs horribly.  Nothing we can do.  Adobe built us a piece of junk.  Mplayer with it's own codes, works much better as you have discovered.

My old box (God rest it's good soul) was a 1 gz with 500 mb ram.  I couldn't comfortably run flash 9 either.  Yet using Windows on the same machine, Flash 9 worked great.  I guess they didn't put enough love into our version.

may be you are right

but, i guess that this is due to direct x?

I wouldn't be surprised.  Don't know the innards of the player of course.  But it makes sense.  I know Win video capture is less cpu/memory intensive then Linux because it's using direct x.
