martian_modem install

Hi,  I'm trying to get my tosh sat. 1150cds modem running. Currently its linked to Com1 on IRQ4, and it identified as an agere modem. (running vl 5.9 std)

My PC did have the room to include the full kernel source, so I was delighted to find the modem driver on the vl 5.9 repos.  I installed it, ran modprobe martian_dev (no response) but lsmod shows it to be loaded.

when I try to run martian_modem  I keep getting:

Martian error: dynreloc: /proc/self/exe no symbols
martian error: Failed to link to driver

have I got this installed correctly, and can you offer any help? Thanks if possible.

Thanks for your responses. I've since had to pass the notebook on to another person for altogether other reasons, so I won't be able to go any firther with this.

Cariboo and uelsk8s,
I encounter the identical error when trying the martian driver in Puppy Linux.  This is the only google hit other than mine that I have found for this.  So I am very interested in your thoughts on this issue.

If necessary for you to work with me, I can install Vector Linux for testing.  I have been working with Puppy about 3 years, but am not intimate with the linux internals that may be involved here.  (I am a retired programmer from an IBM system.)  I have several old PCs and laptops, but am testing on an Athlon XP 2200+ PCChips M848A m/b, 512MB PC.
