5.9 On A Flash Drive ( Second Try)

Hellu, Knowledgable People,

     Last January i tried in vain to create a bootable VL installer for 5.9 Standard ( http://www.vectorlinux.com/forum2/index.php?PHPSESSID=a4b2e5f40bc9c4e671c38e41e2c61b14&topic=5301.0). I just can't get it to work. This is what i've done:

- Downloaded VL5.9-STD-Gold.iso and checked the sum
- mount -o loop /VL5.9-STD-Gold.iso /mnt/cdrom
- Created sda1 in sda with cfdisk
- mkdosfs -F 32 /dev/sda1
- rsync -av --delete /mnt/cdrom/ /mnt/vl-hot/sda/vol1/
- diff -r /mnt/cdrom /mnt/vl-hot/sda/vol1
- Moved isolinux/isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg
- Modified the paths inside syslinux.cfg
- lilo -M /dev/sda
- umount /dev/sda1
- syslinux /dev/sda1

Just like before i get "Boot failed".

I have a working 5.8 Live/Installer USB flash drive. There is nothing wrong with the computers.

- I also tried syslinux -s /dev/sda1

Nothing. . .

copy the syslinux folder from the cd-root/boot to the flash drive and the bootinst.sh file
replace the syslinux.cfg file and then run bootinst.sh from the flash drive

it works for me here but i am mounting the drive myself.

try unmounting the drive and remounting it yourself

i doubt the drive is bad.
fsck is just telling you the boot sector is not the same as the copy it had backed up.
you just overwrote it in the prior step so it wouldnt be the same.

is there any way you can try formatting the drive from windows?

OK, i did it. . . but i did so many things that i'm not even sure what was it that solved the problem. In the end i switched to a different flash drive (OCZ; A-Data before), i formated with ext3, extlinux, played around with the BIOS - it has _lots_ of options like USB CDD, USB ZIP, and such - , and some other things. So, i installed it in my CF-T5 and it works beautifully (with the exception of the touchscreen).
