Hi. Active res. only 1024x768. Nat. res. for notebook(960GL chipset, int. video) is 1280x800. I used search, edited xorg.conf(setup default color to 16, edit vert. refresh or other), but nothing works.

P.S. My distro - VL 5.8 SOHO

I tried VL 5.9 SOHO Preview and it works fine - with 1280x800.

I don't think the "vesa" driver will give you widescreen resolution.

On my notebook I remember needing Intel drivers and 915resolution to get it right when using 5.8.

I agree.  My mother inlaws notebook with a VIA chipset needed vesa.  Had no choice.  I couldn't achive 1280x800 either. Spent a couple days on it and read somewhere vesa couldn't do it.

It's funny, I didn't notice nightflier's reference to 915resolution.  I just came acrossed it and came back all excited to post about it.

on 5.8 SOHO you will need 915resolution...

This is because the xorg in that relase is old, so it's got old drivers

i have installed program, but it could not identify chipset:
Quote
Intel 800/900 Series VBIOS Hack : version 0.5.3

Intel chipset detected.  However, 915resolution was unable to determine the chipset type.
Chipset Id: 2a008086

I would suggest upgrading to a 5.9 release or upgrading your Xorg
The second option is so hard to do on a 5.8 release, that I can almost tell you your best bet is to upgrade to a 5.9 release

The intel or i915 module is probabbly what you need
