Problems with onboard sound and stability issues

Hi,

   This is my first problem which I am facing.My onboard sound is not working and when I try to  play any media files the
system hangs and I have to restart....

 I had a problem with my network before this which was resolved by me aftera  a lot of time was spent on it....

this my config
PIII, 550 Mhz
128 MB ram
80 gb x 2 hdd
ECS motherboard

I would have given lsmod and lspci o/p as given by others in quotes but i don't know how to copy from text from xterminal 

lspci is showing the sound controller

You can select it with the left mousebutton, then paste it with the middle mousebutton (wheel) or both buttons at the same time if you have a 2 button mouse. Once you get used to it you'll miss it every time you use Windows. I know I do .
