I have been trying to locate a program that will give CID and work as an answering machine. So far all I can find for Linux are tkvoice and some others that require mgetty/vgetty. I have tried but haven't been able to confirm mgetty/vgetty are on Vector Linux and tkvoice requires a file from another website that is no longer working, and I don't know if it would work on VL or not.

Does anyone have a program that is working with VL that will at least answer the phone, play a message, and record incoming messages? CID is not necessary but would be a plus. Also I don't need fax capabilities.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Am I wrong or is isdn phone more like skype (I guess I mean a digital streaming phone) instead of a normal telco line?

You are right. ISDN is a digital connection:

It is for a POTS line (Normal Telephone) as the package describes.

It is not the same as Skype or ISDN.

Then it's a stupid name - isdnvbox? - plus:

ISDN answering machine, client and server

I didn't see anything about POTS at the link - do I have to install it before I find that?

I have never used the software.

There should be a README with the software.

I had the telephone answering working for several years in Linux including VL just using m/vgetty no gui programs. Made 2 small programs one for initiating/answering and one for spooling back incoming calls. Now I have no more telephone line so all became obsolete. I still have the 2 scripts.

I just followed the instruction to set it up. The hardest was to record myself for playback: "You have reached......on th beep"
