well beta 2 was out a while ago,but i couldnt find it for slackware..
http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.1-beta2.php
so i guess we would have to wait for the final release, which will be on July, the end of this month! Yes,so soon!

Kde 4.1 is going to rock. I just watched this streamcast:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=FYpO5lyDglQ

and i'm really digging the new features and the plasmoids (especially the file browser) ..it also seems that kwin4 took some of compiz-fusions effects ... and lets not forget that this is going to be the polished, final version that is intended to REPLACE kde's current stable- its going to have all the new features+more new features on a stable base.Let's see gnome beat that eye candy!  Tongue

These are weird possible answers in the poll... is there such a thing as KDE 3.9?? Also, I thought KDE was always a Desktop Environmont, but it has been changed completely into an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) now? But enough about that.

I am seriously hoping the new KDE4 will be better than last time I tried it (4.0.0).. I really love KDE 3 and tried KDE 4 with much anticipation, but it was nowhere near as configurable as kde3, and lots slower. As for all the eyecandy: I might look at it once, then turn it off to save resources. That is, if it's possible to turn it all off, if that isn't possible I probably won't use 4 very long at all and stick with 3.x.

KDE 3.5.9 is already released. KDE 3.5.10 is expected in Aug.

KDE 4.0-4.2 are still classed as development cycles and are still
not intended to be used as a daily Desktop.

From that screencast I would really like to try KDE 4 again, just to see what it's like.  Maybe somebody will package it for VL 6.0; I imagine VL will be sticking with KDE 3.5.x for a while, but I wouldn't mind seeing how 4.x.x is coming along.

I do loves me the eyecandies (Aero anyone?  Yes, I leave it running even when playing Crysis) but, somehow, I don't think I'll end up using it Sad  Main linux box is running Light (and still manages to slow to a crawl after a few days - I think I've pushed the hardware too far and it's on the verge of dying) and this box is running VL64.

Suppose I could always look into putting KDE4 into VL64 Smiley

EDIT:  As an aside, I'm quite serious about this - if any experienced packagers/devs are willing to help me with details I can't sort out on my own (or provide starting points to do so) I'm quite happy to install a clean, package-making-friendly VL64 and try to get KDE 4.1 working on VL64.  I know there aren't many of us VL64 users, but those of us who are, well, I imagine most of us will be running it on high-end, or at least Core Duo spec, hardware.  I haven't donated any money (yet), I've turned to this community for help more times than I can remember, and I think it's time I gave something back.
