wcs has packaged mp3gain-1.4.6 for VL59

Package: mp3gain-1.4.6-i586-1vl59.tlz
MD5: ec0621fc9a188d162e639168a4291135
Package Size: 48 KIB (0.05 MB)
Installed size: 130 KIB (0.13 MB)

Sources: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-5.9/source/testing/base-apps/mp3gain
Quote
mp3gain: mp3gain (MP3 volume adjuster)
mp3gain: MP3Gain analyzes and adjusts mp3 files so that they have the same
mp3gain: volume. MP3Gain does not just do peak normalization, as many
mp3gain: normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis to
mp3gain: determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear.
mp3gain: Also, the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. There is no
mp3gain: quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file
mp3gain: directly, without decoding and re-encoding.
mp3gain: License: GNU LGPL
mp3gain: Authors: Glen Sawyer
mp3gain: Website: http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/

After testing this package, please take a moment and come back to this thread to let us know how it works for you.

To let you know (for those using amarok), this can be tested by running the amarok_replay_gain script and seeing the effect when playing mp3 files.
