Package removal in gslapt
« on: July 22, 2008, 07:05:25 am »
Is it just me, or there is something terribly wrong when one tries to remove a package in gslapt?
Usually, I get gslapt attempting to remove a whole lot of packages.

Is that because it tries to remove everything that depends on the one I want to remove?
Sometimes, it just seems that the package list is almost random.

Not so good for new users, I guess...

I've noticed this behavior as well.  Don't know if it's Gslapt, or slapt-get itself as I've never removed a package with slapt-get. If removing packages with Gslapt, I've gotten in the habit of checking what it plans to remove.  If I don't agree, I cancel and remove manually with removepkg.

It's slapt-get as well, when using --remove.
Unfortunately, using slapt-get --remove --no-dep gives a segmentation fault (to me, at least).

So the alternative is removepkg.

I guess there is some value to the possibility of removing stuff that depend on what you're removing, but surely not all the time.
Seems quite dangerous, especially in gslapt where you have to open the list to check it.

Ooops, thanks.  That turned out to be an initialization error resulting in dereferncing a null pointer.

fixed and scheduled for next release.
