I have this webcam lying around that I just plugged in.

lsusb shows:

Bus 4 Device 3: ID 0c45:6029 Microdia Triplex i-mini PC Camera

I did some googling and found this:

which says that it uses the sn9c102 module.

After checking with lsmod I see that I have this module loaded.

and cat /dev/video0 shows me lots chars flying by so I think its working.

My question is now what? What software are my fellow vectorites using??

I've never used a webcam in Linux. But I did test if my wife's internal webcam was working by capturing a short video clip with ffmpeg. I'm pretty sure this link has the command that worked for me.
Not what you were looking for, but you can confirm it's working.

Thanks for that link I'll check it out.

I found this little program called fswebcam. Its a shell program and I just used it to test the camera.
Works ok.

Checked with gslapt-get and didn't find a package for fswebcam so I downloaded the source from the authors website and compiled it.

vpackage couldn't compile it though stopped with an error. Love that vpackage thing its neat.
