Having successfully got ethernet working via cable on one laptop, I've now installed the same VL 5.9 on a much newer laptop, which I believe has bluetooth. However, I can't get ethernet at all, even via cable.
The command lspci | grep eth produces nothing.
The command lsmod | grep bluetooth produces:
bluetooth 48484 1 hci_usb
I also have a Cisco Aironet adapter available, but this is also not being seen.
What's the best way to proceed? I don't really mind at this stage whether internet is cabled or wireless.

The first would be to post the full output of lspci. Your NIC should be there, maybe "eth" is not present in the lspci output, but could give some other info about youe nic card. Same for the wireless adapter, try lspcmcia to find it. The output of lsmod might be usefull too.

Thanks! That will take some time, as the removable hard drive I have doesn't seem to register with this laptop, so I'll have to try a pendrive to get the data from one laptop to the other. Otherwise, I'd have to transcribe it all, and I don't think I've got the patience to do that!

The command lspcmcia gives no output whatsoever.

I think I've solved this by changing mount options from VL-Hot to HAL.
I'm now on the internet via cable and am writing this with the machine in question. Also, my Cisco Systems Aironet card is at least showing a green light, which it wasn't before, so maybe I'll be able to go on to configure this at a later date.
The command 'lspci' now shows the ethernet controller.
Thanks for the help.
