I went to System; Administration; VL firewall configurator (vleasytables). Entered my root password and selected "Make Default Firewall". The first question is "Choose your external interface:". Since I didn't know if it was eth0 or eth1, I went to "Control Center"; "Internet & Network"; "Network Settings". A dialog box pops up saying "Unsupported Platform: and ask me to select a version of Linux that is supported. Vector is not in the list. What do I select?

I running Vector Linux 5.8.6 SOHO RC1 kernel release number 2.6.20.3

I tried searching the forums for "Control Center" +"Network Settings" but did not find anything.

Thank you.

The easiest way to find out I can think of is to open a terminal and enter...

"YourRootPassword"
Enter your root password. You are now working as a root user.

If you are not connected wirelessly enter the command...

ifconfig

If you are connected wirelessly enter the command...

iwconfig

This should produce output in the terminal that will answer your question.

I have Deluxe as well but the completed version and not RC1. It does not have 'Network Settings' where you suggested in the 'Control Center'.
That would lead me to believe that that is an application the developers would rather you did not use. However, I believe the answer to that question is 'Slackware'
but you will have to tell me it it is on the list.

Consider getting the full version.  RC's can be buggy, that there whole purpose, to flush out bugs in a potential release.

Hi
Which version of VASMCC are you using?

just a gues - maybe you upgraded to newer VASMCC that was meaned to be used in later version of VL and that causes the problem?

Also a question:
Why are you using VL 5.8?
VL 5.9 is already released and VL 6.0 is already in development?
I suggest you to install VL 5.9 STD. If you like KDE, just get it from repos.

...or just spend the $20 for the two isos for VL 5.9 SOHO Deluxe and support Vector Linux.  The convenience of having a huge amount of stuff packaged and available without download is worth it.  Also, VL 5.9 SOHO is optimized for KDE and KDE has been tweaked to the max.
