Install 5.8 package in 5.9
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:04:52 am »

Hi Everyone,
I would like to install Novell Groupwise client in 5.9, but I can only find a package for 5.8.  Can I do this, and will there be any problems after the install?
Thanks,
Jim

It should work. You may have to chase some dependencies thought.
let us know how it works out.

Ok, I finally gave it a try.  Everything looked like it installed ok, but when I went to run it I got this:

error while loading shared libraries: libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes.  You are missing a dependency.  Find out which package provides libjvm and install it.

Sorry for asking what seems to be a simple question, but is there a list of what provides what somewhere?  I also use opensuse, and you can search for items by what they provide, but I don't know how to do that in Vector.
Thanks

Tukaani (modified Slackware) packaging has no such facility, sorry.  That is one of the advantages of rpm.  You're going to have to do something like a Google Linux search to figure this one out.

the database at http://packages.slackware.it/ can help sometimes.

it shows

/usr/lib/java/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so
/usr/lib/java/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so

Ok, I installed catfish and found that libjvm.so is already installed in /usr/lib/jre1.6.0_05/lib/i386/client.  Maybe I can create a symlink?  Is there any way to find out where groupwise is looking for the file?
Thanks,
Jim

Got it!  I opened up the groupwise script to see what was there and the path to the libraries was there.  I created a symlink in the lib directory and off it went.
Thanks for the help!
