Looks like I have either a bad burn or a bad download. However, the interesting thing is that, using the TUI installer, I've been able to install 0.37 without any failures (since all the damaged packages are in the optional area).

One other item of note for the installer - Seamonkey has become an optional package. I think that is probably a very bad idea, unless some alternate email client is to be included. People unfamiliar with Seamonkey may well deselect it in favour of Firefox, and leave themselves short of any sort of email/news client.

Can someone give me the md5sum for the 0.37 iso? That way I can check whether it is just a bad burn or whether there was a problem during the download. I have been using the deltas, which provides a degree of self checking, but the quick jump from 0.34 to 0.37 meant that it really wasn't worth while downloading all the deltas, so this time I just downloaded the iso...

A0.37

After having done a fresh restall of window xp home, I used the gparted functionality to shrink it and make my linux partitions.
(Worked excellent by the way.)
I then moved on to the next window, choose my root, swap and that I wanted it to detect the windows.

However, like nightflier, I was told that a windows partition could not be detected.

I went on to complete the install to see if the lilo set up would tell me any different, but of course it did not.

I'm trying again.

Same result 2nd time.  This time though I choose not to install lilo, used the disk to boot, then used vliloconf.
This tool had no trouble detecting windows, but gave this error when I tried to install...
"Sorry, but the attempt to install Lilo has returned an error......etc, etc then...
lilo error=Fatal:Either Fix-Table or Ignore-Table must be specified.

AO.37
This install is on a different machine.
Computer
Processor   2x AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
Memory   2005MB (842MB used)
Operating System   5.9 Standard GOLD built on Dec-16-07
Date/Time   Wed 12 Nov 2008 10:57:14 AM MST
Display
Resolution   1280x1024 pixels
OpenGL Renderer   GeForce 6150 LE/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!
X11 Vendor   The X.Org Foundation
Multimedia
Audio Adapter   HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
Audio Adapter   USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d

The first thing of interest is this... Of my 4 partitions the installer saw vl5.9, vl6.0, linux-mint xfce, but it did not see zenwalk. It was able to see zenwalk before(AO.25 and AO.31, but would generate an error that prevented lilo from setting it up unless I deselected zenwalk.

The last thing of interest is unique to this machine.  After I complete the entire install (full install option) and am rebooting to launch from harddrive for the 1st time, then my xorg.conf craps out on me. I get the screens I show here then I'm told my gdm will but shut down until I can fix things.

I had the same result with AO.31, A0.34 but I didn't mention because A0.25 worked fine on this machine and I could not duplicate it on my other machines.

After A0.25 Vector started trying to detect and configure the graphics hardware as the last step in the gui and that is when this trouble began.

When I install A0.37 using the text installer I do not have the same problem, (by the way, the text installer isn't seeing the debian OS during lilo set-up).)

Somehow, this behaviour seems tied to the specs on this machine, graphics card I presume. As I do not have similar problems on any other and I'm testing on 4 diff.

0.37 was a bad burn the first time through. Copied the iso to a USB drive and burnt it on the laptop and it now works.

First problem. When I got to the user configuration, there is an empty, rectangular box to the right of the entry fields for the user. It seems to be partially covering some text, but I couldn't determine what the text said.

I wanted to reuse the user that I created for testing the alphas, so I entered the details for that user. And promptly hit an error:

Code:
This applicatino has raided an unexpected errro and must abort.

[38] File already exists.
FMUserAdd.?.0

While using the same user name has some risks, this response really isn't useful at all. On retry, I selected a new user name and the install completed.

Another matter. I don't use Lilo, so I've not taken a lot of notice of it in earlier installs. But I did take a look before I disabled it. And its giving some strange results on my laptop.

I've got XP installed on hda1, the os/2 boot manager on hda2, a small ext2 partition on hda6 (/boot for Zenwalk), /home (shared) on hda7, Zenwalk 5.2 / on hda8, Vector 5.9 Standard on hda9, Vector 5.9 SOHO on hda10, Vector 6.0 alpha on hda11, OpenSUSE (well, not any more, accidentally overwrote it with a Vector alpha) on hda12, Zenwalk 5.4 alpha on hda13.

Of those operating systems, the Lilo install didn't see Windows at all, didn't pick up the /boot partition for Zenwalk (which is also used for my single Grub install), and didn't pick up Zenwalk 5.4 alpha on hda13. Before I killed the OpenSUSE install, it was being seen as Slackware 12.

I forgot to check on the problems I was seeing with attempting to go back during the install and then stalling. I'll try another install later and see if that problem still occurs.

Just installed the latest alpha, but again graphics card not detected as a nvidia card and no network connection, ethenet card not found :-(

Ran vasm and did auto detect hardware and got the nvidia card and also can surf the net now, though still got a no network card detected.

Now this is interesting, can connect to the net only if I log in in tui, then startx or startxfce4

So things are detected but not properly....

I'm not sure if this is an installer or problem or a product problem. However, since I've not seen it happen after a TUI install, I guess it should be put here....

I've installed from alpha 0.37, using the GUI installer. After the installer, I used VASM to set the keyboard (a US keyboard is no use to me). However, after two attempts, I still have the US layout. Looking at /etc/X11/xorg.conf shows no keyboard setup at all:

I still think that keyboard layout selection should be part of the install, not something that has to be set after install, but this is badly in need of some sort of fix.

A5, installed from burned CD, installed without any major glitches.  Grin
W2K detected, partition automounted.

Minor issues:
- Wired NIC still shows as unplugged when not.
- I had to run alsaconf again after install before sound came alive, even though it looked like sound card was detected at first.
