Add windows domain users to linux local group...
« on: September 12, 2008, 12:53:55 am »

I am setting up a samba file server using VL5.9 GOLD in my office. It can authenticate all my NT4 domain user/group using winbind. But is that possible to add my windows domain users to my existing linux users group? I want to only allow certain users to access a particular share folder, currently I am using below method to set the control.....

Quote
[E]
   comment = E Folder
   path = //mnt/hda1
   valid users = DOMAIN\\xxx, DOMAIN\\xxx, DOMAIN\\xxx

But I know I can set the valid users using user group instead of single users....

Quote
valid users = @group

I try to add a linux group.......

Quote
groupadd group

then add my domain user to that group

Quote
gpasswd -a DOMAIN\\xxx group

then i add modify my smb.conf but it doesn't work...

Quote
valid users = @group

There are a couple ways to do this, LDAP comes to
mind then you can have single sign on, and all of
those advantages.

The lack of information makes this really hard to make
any suggestions.

Have you looked at your logs? Including some information
from them would really help. If there is not much in the
logs increase the logging. Also check /var/log/messages and
/var/log/secure.

These are the troubleshooting methods mentioned in the Samba
documentation.
