After trying to resolve the login I now have another problem.  Yes I did reload several times and found out it didn't like the network card, so I shall have to use the USB cable link on it for updates etc.  Whilst getting fed up with the reloads I forgot to setup up the root password.  Now I can't access anything in control panel etc or updates.  This has to be simple, so how do I access the root and change the password?  I did setup a user account, but it doesn't ask for that only root.

Looking forward to your answers

Thanks for your wisdom, my wisdom lacks much - must be the morphine I take

The password is blank. Open a terminal and then enter su.
Then leave the password blank. Then use passwd root and
enter your password.

Ah, thats worrying as nothing is opening and I thought it was due to not having a password.  I can't see a package opener, or open up things like control panel.  Any suggestion with V-light?

Thanks
