Vector on Distrowatch
« on: September 25, 2008, 01:17:36 pm »

Just went to Distro Watch today andlooked at the last 7 days Vector has moved to break the top 20. Currently it is #17!!  Looks like the word is starting to get ou there. I found Vector from a friend who is a Slackware  preacher!! Told me Vector is the stuff and I would be an idiot not to try it. Well I try to tell everyone I know and have even installed it on a few friends PC's. Well guess what? After  I do the initial config and set up I don't hear back with issues, like I did with Mandriva and (K)Ubuntu. Only thing I here is Man I never new a P3 would move like my kids Dual Core!!. Keep up the good work. And lets keep Vector climbing the Distrowatch charts.

VL always climbs for a while after a release, sometimes quite dramatically. The highest I've personally seen it was at 5th place, believe it or not! I even took a screenshot for posterity. Unfortunately, login at image-upload.net seems borked right now, so I can't link it.

Hmmm... I just looked and with the default view (6 mo. avg) we're still at #24.

with almost a 300 point jump in one day thats pretty impressive in my book and 13 points for 6 months impressive too.......................:) We should break the top 10 but as Joe pointed out staying there is the trick.

Cheers,

There is no doubt that each of the last two release announcements (VL 6.0 alpha 2 and VL SOHO 5.9.1) have built interest on Distrowatch.  I do think that's a good thing.  I also think the all hands efforts we've had to get the latest security issues patched just about immediately also makes VL look very good to new people who might be coming over from Distrowatch or elsewhere.

Everytime VL goes on DW, even my site gets a large spike in visitors. I think the key is successively releasing info on DW. In other words, keep VL alive to those who are watching from there.

I'd be more excited about 6.0 alpha 3 or beta 1.

I just went there and saw something veeery strange.
Vector was actually at number 1 for a number of statistics (honest!).
But don't get too excited... Ubuntu wasn't even on the list, so there must be something wrong with distrowatch.

Pretty funky, although there's no way that that's the top 10 for the last 6 months.

EDIT: 6 months is now back to normal... I liked the other version much better.
Perhaps they're only now realising that their statistics were messed up all this time, and Vector is much more popular than we thought.  ;D
