New to Vector trying to setup XAMPP
« on: September 26, 2008, 12:23:04 pm »

Hi there.  I've been wanting to setup a Linux system for a while now so that I could play with Apache-MySQL-PHP.  My brother introduced me to Vector gold.  I couldn't believe how easy it is to setup and use.  He then pointed me to the XAMPP web site (I guess it used to be call LAMPP) to get the web server, database, etc that I wanted to play with.  I installed it and it works just fine except for one thing.  I have not figured out how to actually get into MySQL to create a new database.  The demo stuff that came with xampp works just fine.  It was after installing it that I saw the "how-to" here in Vector for AMP but xampp loads stuff into different directories.  If anyone has any experience with this product, please let me know how to get started.

Thanks

Sounds to me like you need a Mysql howto and not a xampp howto.

Here is one very basic tutorial... based on *buntu ... but you can bypass the installation process and look at how they connect to the server running on the local computer, and then start doing stuff in mysql

xampp usually comes with phpmyadmin which will get you to a graphical frontend to mysql.  I think you can just point your browser to: http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/

Give that a shot and see if it works.
