older computer not shutting down (solved)
« on: October 14, 2008, 05:05:24 pm »
Hello all,
I recently installed Vector in an older computer and all is going very well... except when I shut down the computer gets to halt (halt the hard drive) but then does not power off.  I would not worry about it except I am setting this up for a family and so I will not be the user of this computer.

p.s. I have done a little with command line but not very much.

Thank you for the link.  I did follow it (to the best of my ability) and it does halt a little differently but still not powering down...

Have you double-checked your BIOS setup? Make sure you have power management enabled, acpi enabled (if available), etc...

I checked BIOS and changing the power management did the trick!  I just love simple solutions!   :D

Thanks, both of you for all the help!
