I Installed the latest VL-5.9.1 and cannot print with it. Sames as with VL-6.0a.

The print jobs are there yet the printer won't butch. This is very frustrating w/o being able to print a distro is useless for me since I do a lot of printing.

Can I assume the problem is in the kernel?

What type of printer are you trying to set up?
Did you set it up with cups or HP Device Manager. (Assuming it is an hp.)?

Have you tried printing as root? It will help determine if you have a privileges problem

I used cups to set up my Epson LQ300 printer. /etc/cups/ is the same as in VL5.8/5.9

Even as root it will not print.

I recall once VL issued a kernel whith which I could not print. Borrowed one from another distro and it worked.

So if I'm reading this quote right you had this same printer working in 5.8 and 5.9 through cups but not now in 5.9.1 or 6.0

I'll have to step aside for someone else here with a little more experience in kernel issues, or at least with the same printer as yourself.  Sorry, but it's a good community and I'm sure someone will answer soon.

Thanks!

It does not seem to be a kernel problem. I changed to kernel 2.6.24.4 which I use in VL-59/58 and does print there, however, not now in VL5.9.1.

BTW this is a parallelt printer. I will try now to connect to USP port.

Did not print as well.

However, now I found the culprit. File /usr/lib/cups/backend/epson was missing. Copied it over and now both parallel and USB ports do print.
