I just installed VL-59-light and just as in VL-59.1-SOHO and possibly VL-6-a2 the file /usr/lib/cups/backend/epson is absent preventing any printing with my Epson printer.

Is this deliberate or negligence?

Did you try installing "gutenprint"?

Yes, it had/has been installed in all mentioned 3 versions of VL.

This missing file can be found in VL-5.8 and slackware-12.
